In the summer of 2004, the concept
of a resource touching on the subject of faith and
science was born in response to the requests from
church leaders for material on this topic.
In its initial phases, a team was
sent out to the Faith and Science Conference held
in Denver, CO in the fall of 2004, where 35 scientists,
theologians, and specialists were interviewed to
share their thoughts and experiences regarding this
subject.
Using this as a foundation as well
as its springboard, a format was drawn out to provide
a documentary experience that would meet the interests
of youth and young adults.
At the heart of the road trip is
the journey of two college students given the overwhelming
assignment of gathering information about the origins
of the universe by traveling to relevant locations
around the United States and meeting both experts
and bystanders along the way, all while trying to
somehow reconcile the bewildering mixture of scientific
data, biased opinions, and heated emotions.
Covering a staggering 7,500 miles
in 5 weeks, the trip, starting on May 2nd, 2005,
began in Washington, DC, went to the South, through
the Midwest, and all over the Western United States.
The range of topics covered in their
journey vary--including darwinian evolution, the
geological column, catastrophism, faith, dinosaurs,
the big bang, and the nature of mankind. |
